Colectivo Satelital is a Tkaronto-based collective of artists, designers, DJs and writers from Venezuela, with the goal of sharing diasporic experiences. We aim to educate and foster community participation by creating digital platforms for emerging artists and through events, exhibitions, workshops and storytelling.
Members:
Alejandro Rizzo Nervo is a visual artist, with a BFA in Photography from OCAD University. He was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and when he was 21, his family decided it was time to flee out of a coming political disaster. His practice is based on photography, collage, photomontage, and non traditional printing processes which allow him to connect the viewer to his pieces. His work deals with politics and LGBTQ+ issues, and it is made to expose problems related to his personal experiences. His work has been part of group shows in Canada, Mexico and Italy.
Ana Luisa Bernárdez is an interdisciplinary emerging artist, arts administrator and DJ based in Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University and currently sits on Pleasure Dome's Board of Directors for the 2021-2023 period. Through Pleasure Dome and Colectivo Satelital, Ana Luisa’s practice has significantly expanded to public programs curation, community-based work, and workshop facilitation.
Camila Salcedo is a curator, community organizer and an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. She holds a BFA Interdisciplinary from NSCAD University from 2018. Her most recent curatorial project, Memorial: Work by Artists of the Venezuelan Diaspora, showed at the Khyber Centre for the Arts and Xpace Cultural Centre.
Cecilia Salcedo is a multidisciplinary graphic designer based in Toronto. She is an award winning designer with a Bachelor of Design from OCAD University. Cecilia's practice revolves around reflecting on her identity as a Venezuelan immigrant, as well as environmental justice, and community building projects. With her design she seeks to better understand the intersections of her own identity, using design as a form of expression and catharsis. Her work also serves to bring these issues to the public and create accessible work that the broad population can learn from.
denirée isabel is an artist, writer, and dreamer. Using her textile background to employ large scale installation, performance, and participatory/community art. Navigating the sticky terrains of emotionality and presence, she creates space that prioritizes sharing and healing for herself and her audience. All with the ethos of experimentation, curiosity, and care.
Sebastián Rodríguez y Vasti is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. His work currently deals with migration, positionality and the influence of language. Through a variety of media, including video, installation, performance, VR and text, he explores the impact of mass migration in himself and those around him, and also studies the processes through which his own work is made.
